We begin with an
initial assessment process to determine how or if an individual will
be able to benefit from group therapy.
New participants join a group that is already in place. Members
are introduced into one of three stable ongoing groups twice a year.
Individuals have the opportunity to shape the future direction the
group will take.
We emphasize the development of meaningful relationships within the
group. Group cohesion and goodwill are hallmarks of our therapy groups.
We devote time to building an individual support system to enhance
each man's experiences with one another.
There are no structured themes or topics. Emphasis is placed on the
issues that hold interest and vitality for the group at that particular
moment.
We build an atmosphere of opportunity that allows for "safe
emergence" by creating the essential internal and external supports.
We hold the belief that whatever each man does for himself, he does
also for the entire group. We foster the values of emotional responsiveness
and attentiveness in each man. We promote each man's ability to become
an honored witness for another's story. This focused attention brings
about the capacity for healing for each individual.
